Dr. Felipe Pimentel obtained his Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid in 1992. His postdoctoral training includes a 5 year stay in Dr. Brian Seed's laboratory at the Department of Molecular Biology, Massachussets General Hospital, and Genetics Department, Harvard Medical School. During this time, Dr. Pimentel focused on the study of the molecular mechanisms that members of the Tumor Necrosis Factor Receptor superfamily activate to induce cell death in susceptible cells. After a brief period as a Scientist in the Department of Molecular Technologies of the company GPC-Biotech, Inc. (Boston) Dr. Pimentel joined as a Ramón y Cajal fellow the Centre for Cancer Research at the Salamanca University, where since March 2002 he has been leading his own research group focused on the identification of novel molecules involved in the regulation of apoptosis and autophagy, and their implications in human pathophysiology.
LAB POSITIONS FOR MASTER AND PhD THESIS: Two annual positions are available for candidates interested in investigating the mechanisms that regulate programmed cell death and cellular autophagy, and the implications of both processes in immunity and cancer.
